02/15/2017 UPDATE: iPhone 7/7+ kit is only needed if you already have a Beastgrip Pro without our new lens mount with an interchangeable rubber insert. All Beastgrip Pro models sold on our website now are fully compatible with the iPhone 7/7 Plus and come pre-installed with this kit.

The Beastgrip Pro has been compatible with about 99% of all smartphones, including every generation of the iPhone. Even so, with all of the drastic changes that came along with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus we knew that we needed to improve our design. Right now, the Beastgrip Pro is semi-compatible with both phones - which you can learn about here - but we wanted to make it perfect. Here's what we set out to fix:

  • Both phones moved the camera closer to the edge, which caused a problem with the iPhone 7 Plus not aligning correctly with the main camera.
  • Both phones added a larger camera bump, which made it more likely for unwanted light to leak through to the camera because of the large opening on our current lens mount and the way it aligns with the camera.
  • The iPhone 7 Plus uses a dual camera system, which meant our design needed to allow both cameras to be used without interference and with the ability to switch between them easily.

As soon as we addressed what we needed to fix, our engineers started working non-stop to design the perfect solution - and we couldn't be more proud of the results they created. Check out the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Upgrade Kits below:

The iPhone 7 Upgrade Kit includes our redesigned lens mount with a removable insert.

The iPhone 7 Plus Upgrade Kit includes the redesigned lens mount with a removable insert and the updated lower clamp jaw.

New Lens Mount (for iPhone 7/7 Plus)

The redesigned, patent-pending lens mount has a dome-shaped, flexible rubber insert that creates a contoured fit around the camera module.

Using Both Cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus

Now, both the main and telephoto cameras can be used on the iPhone 7 Plus.

The native app on the iPhone 7 Plus uses a complex algorithm to automatically determine which camera(s) will be used when you take a picture. (To learn more about how it works, read this article from iMore.)

If you'd like to use external lenses, you'll need to manually choose the camera that you'd like to shoot with - using an app such as ProCam, Pro Camera, or FiLMiC Pro - and then slide the lens mount up/down to align it with that camera.

New Lower Clamp Jaw (for iPhone 7 Plus Only)

The redesigned lower clamp jaw optimizes the position of the iPhone 7 Plus to allow the lens mount to align perfectly with either the 28mm or 56mm camera. Note: For optimal alignment with the Beastgrip Pro's lens mount, do NOT use a protective case when using the iPhone 7 Plus.

We're extremely excited to release these upgrade kits and to see what everyone creates on their new iPhones! We will post more information about our release date all over social media and our newsletter as soon as it's available - stay tuned! And lastly, don't hesitate to reach out to us at info@beastgrip.com if you have any questions for us. We're happy to help!
