Hello #beastgripnation, today we have an important update for you. We have completed our testing and want to show you how our Pro Series Lenses and DOF Adapter MK2 work with Apple's newly released iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Series.

As we mentioned in our previous update Beastgrip Pro is fully compatible with all new iPhone 13 models. Make sure you are using the correct lens mount, the one we originally designed for iPhone 12 Pro Max and which we include with every Beastgrip we sell. Just install it on your Beastgrip Pro and you're all set.

We went out and made some footage to show you how all these lenses work with new iPhones. Here are a few things that we noticed right away.

A larger sensor and faster aperture on iPhone 13 Pro Series main camera module do make a difference, and now you can see a more shallow depth of field in your footage compared to previous iPhones.

Sounds like great news but on the other hand in situations when you are shooting those wider shots it's easier to miss the focus when you have your object/subject in the scene closer to your camera. The shallow depth of field is very settled and everything might look perfect to you at the first glance, you might not see this on your screen but if you look closer at your footage you might notice that you have missed the focus. The shallow depth of field is also present even when you are using Wide-angle and Anamorphic Lenses and have your object in close range (you can see it in our sample video). That is something you always have to keep in mind and check to make sure your focus is set on your object. The faster aperture and larger sensor on iPhones 13 Pro Series also affect the performance of some lenses. With our Anamorphic lenses and 2x Telephoto lens, it affects performance toward the edges of the frame that become softer compared to performance with all other iPhone models that have smaller sensors. This also depends a lot on the scene and is more noticeable when focusing on infinity and having scenes with a lot of details and high contrast (bright sky, trees, buildings, etc.)

Pro Series 0.75X Wide Angle Lens

And now let's start with our lenses. The first one is our Pro series Kenko 0.75x wide-angle lens that is made by Kenko Tekina. While using this lens you’re gonna get a wider field of view, it is very sharp and it's the highest quality wide-angle lens on the market. It works great on all smartphones, including the new iPhones 13 and 13 Pro Series

Edge to edge sharpness, no distortion, it is your go-to lens for anyone who does vlogging, likes shooting cityscapes, landscapes, or if you want to get those crisp cinematic shots.

Pro Series 2X Telephoto Lens

The next one is our Pro Series 2X Telephoto Lens. This lens gives you 2 times fixed zoom and you will get about 52 mm focal length equivalent when attached to your main iPhone camera.

Thanks to a larger sensor and faster aperture on the new iPhones 13 Pro Series main camera this lens will help you to achieve a shallow depth of field effect even more easily when shooting closeups.

It is an extremely good lens for portraits, nature, and all kinds of close-up shots. It will help you to achieve Ba noticeable bokeh and will add more depth to your images so you can draw attention to specific areas of your frame. As previously mentioned in our product description this lens has a limited focus range on an iPhone tele camera. On iPhones 13 Pro Series tele camera the focus range is from 3ft to 8ft, so you still can get nice tight shots with even more compressed perspective, so it gives you just another way to be creative and achieve a unique look do draw attention to specific details in your shot.

Pro Series 1.33X Anamorphic Lens

5.25.2022

ATTENTION: The new Pro Series 1.33X Anamorphic Lens MK2 is available now. The original lens is discontinued.

Now let's talk about our Pro Series 1.33x Anamorphic Lens. This anamorphic lens will give you a real widescreen 2.39:1 aspect ratio that is produced by cylindrical optics in the anamorphic. If you want to do real-time de-squeeze because your footage will be distorted make sure you are using our Beastcam app which has support for anamorphic lenses.

The 1.33x Anamorphic Lens works the best when paired with the main camera on the iPhone. You can use it with a tele camera but do not expect the same quality of the footage.

Pro Series 1.55X Anamorphic Lens

Our next lens is the Pro Series 1.55x Anamorphic. The world's first anamorphic lens for smartphones that gives you a 2.76:1 Ultra Panavision aspect ratio so this is the most cinematic lens you can get for your phone. This lens can be used with the main and tele camera on your iPhone.

DOF Adapter MK2

Our DOF MK2 (depth of field adapter) allows you to use full-frame SLR and DSLR lenses with your smartphone.

The DOF MK2 Adapter is based on a Canon EF mount and the main purpose of this adapter is to achieve a real shallow depth of field that you can achieve with your full-frame cameras. It works the best for close-up shots and when you need the most separation between your object and background. In the sample video, we used a vintage Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens with Nikon F - to - Canon EF adapter ring.

With the recent release of the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro series we were all excited to test them and see how they work with our gear. Today we are happy to announce that even with the slight changes that came in camera design, all iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro series are fully compatible with our Beastgrip Pro, just make sure you are using the lens mount that we originally designed for iPhone 12 Pro Max and that are included with every Beastgrip we sell.

This mount will give you the correct alignment and fit for your new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro series. Simply install the mount on your Beastgrip Pro and you are ready to shoot.

We are still in process of testing our Beastgrip lenses with new iPhone cameras and as soon as we have more info on their compatibility we will provide you with an update. Stay tuned!

September 14, 2021

The new iPhones 13 Series are almost here, and it’s always exciting time to watch Apple Keynote find out what is coming next with the new iPhones!

This year is no exception, especially after so many leaks pointing at huge improvements in the camera department, it’s exciting to finally get official release information confirming great updates to the camera system on the new iPhones, especially on iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. With a new Cinematic Mode, ProRes format, improved low light performance, upgraded camera modules with larger sensor on wide 26mm camera and new 3X (77mm) telephoto camera and auto-focus Ultra-wide 13mm camera.

And we are proud to see our Beastgrip Pro was used in production by two-time Academy Award winning director Kathryn Bigelow and Oscar-nominated cinematographer Greig Fraser to showcase the iPhone 13 Pro Series cinematic capabilities!

Every time Apple releases new iPhones there are always some changes in the form factor, and even slight changes in the camera module size and position may affect the performance with our existing gear. It is too early to tell how the new iPhones 13 series will work with all Beastgrip gear since we need to test everything once we have new phones in our hands. However, there are few things we can predict now, based on available information.

Beastgrip Pro

iPhone 13 and 13 mini should be fully compatible with our universal Beastgrip Pro rig. It looks like there is a slight camera bump increase compared to iPhone 12 and 12 mini, and obviously, the camera layout also changed, however, it should fit perfectly into the Breatgrip Pro rig. Most likely, the lens mount we designed for iPhone 12 Pro Max (which we include with every Beastgrip Pro unit since Feb 23, 2021) will be the optimal configuration to ensure the best possible lens mount alignment and performance with external lenses.

The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have even larger camera bumps, so there is a question of how they will affect the alignment with the lens mount and performance with external lenses. We can tell for sure, that both phones will fit into the Beastgrip Pro rig and the same lens mount we designed for iPhone 12 Pro Max will be the best possible configuration, however, we have to test them first to give a final conclusion.

In both cases, we will know everything after we test all new iPhone models, then we will post another update. And we already have a few ideas on how to accommodate larger camera bumps on iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max if it will be necessary, so please stay tuned!

Beastcage

Since every Beastcage for iPhone is designed for a specific model to ensure a perfect fit, we will be releasing new Beastcages for iPhones 13 Series.

See Beastcage collection

Beastclamp

Both Beastclamp and Beastclamp Rig will work with the new iPhones 13 Series.

DOF MK2 Adapter

Last year, the larger camera sensor and new optics on iPhone 12 Pro Max introduced some issues in performance with the DOF Mk2 adapter. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a larger minimum focus distance compared to all other iPhone models, for this reason, it was not capable to focus properly on the focusing screen of the DOF MK2 adapter. We had to update the mechanical design of the DOF MK2 to ensure its compatibility with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the updated version of the DOF Mk2 adapter went to the market on Feb 23, 2021. Since iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have even larger camera sensors compared to iPhone 12 Pro Max it is questionable if this will affect the macro focusing capabilities the same way as on the previous iPhone 12 Pro Max. It’s impossible to tell till we will have all new iPhone models and test them with the DOF MK2. Please stay tuned!

Beastcam App

Beastcam should mostly work with the new iPhone models, and we’ll be consistently pushing new updates to fix any potential edge cases that we find and support new camera capabilities.

We appreciate your patience and support since it will be a very busy period of the year designing new products and product updates! Our goal is to provide the best tools so you can take your #phoneography to the next level! Stay tuned!

Beastgrip Team.
