Beastgrip Filmmaking Accessories for iPhone 17
The iPhone 17 series has officially arrived, bringing exciting updates for smartphone filmmakers, especially on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models. After some initial testing, we are impressed with what the new iPhone 17 can do and how well it performs with Beastgrip gear.
The good news is that all of our gear works seamlessly with the iPhone 17 series, just as it did with the iPhone 16 lineup. The only exception is the Beastcage. As always, we are already working on new Beastcages for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, which are planned for release later this year.
You can also check out our latest podcast episode, where we share our first impressions of the iPhone 17 and discuss how it performs with Beastgrip gear. In the episode, we talk about compatibility with our rigs, cages, lenses, and accessories, and share tips to help you get the most out of the iPhone 17’s new features.
Beastgrip Rigs and Cages
Beastgrip Pro

The Beastgrip Pro remains the most versatile and universal rig for mobile creators. It fits the new iPhone 17 series perfectly and provides an excellent handheld grip, multiple mounting points for tripods and gimbals, and the ability to attach a wide range of accessories and lenses. If you want a universal platform that works with your current device and future phones, this is the right choice.
Beastclamp
The Beastclamp is ideal if you want a compact and straightforward way to mount your new iPhone 17 on a tripod, improve grip, or add accessories. It is sturdy, easy to use, and fully compatible with all iPhone 17 models.
Beastcage

For creators who want a precise fit and complete flexibility, the upcoming Beastcages for iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the perfect solution. The new Beastcages will be fully compatible with our existing BeastMod system, ensuring seamless integration whether you are building a lightweight mobile setup or a complete production rig. All accessories, including Action and Side Handles, SSD Adapter, mounts, and clamps, will be compatible with the upcoming Beastcages, providing a wide range of options to customize your setup.

Beastgrip Lenses
Every Beastgrip Pro Series lens is fully compatible with the iPhone 17 series main camera and continues to deliver professional-quality results. This year, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max feature a new 4x telephoto camera with a 48MP sensor, offering improved image quality and an extended zoom range.
Our Pro Series 1.7x Telephoto and Pro Series Macro lenses are fully compatible with the new 4x telephoto camera, providing additional creative possibilities for cinematic storytelling. The 1.7x Telephoto lens, paired with the 4x telephoto camera, adds more compression and delivers an approximate 170mm focal length equivalent, giving your shots a rich, cinematic perspective with an enhanced shallow depth of field. The Pro Series Macro lens, paired with the 4x telephoto camera, enables extremely tight macro close-ups with exceptional detail and clarity, allowing you to capture textures and subjects that were previously difficult to reach on a smartphone.
Open Gate Recording
One of the most exciting new features in the iPhone 17 series is support for Open Gate recording, which allows the camera to capture the full sensor area in a 4:3 aspect ratio with optional Apple ProRes Raw format. This provides filmmakers with more flexibility to reframe in post-production and work with larger images with the best image quality possible.
Our 0.75x Wide Angle and 1.7x Telephoto lenses perform exceptionally well in this mode, providing you with more options for composing and later reframing your shots.
If you shoot with anamorphic glass, Open Gate opens up more creative possibilities. With our 1.33x Anamorphic lens, you will get an image that desqueezes to a roughly 16:9 aspect ratio. With our 1.55x Anamorphic lens, you will get an image that desqueezes to roughly 2:1. You can keep these taller aspect ratios or crop later to 2.39:1 or 2.76:1 ultra-wide cinematic formats, depending on the look you want to achieve.
When using our DOF Adapter MK3 with Open Gate, you will see a visible 3:2 focusing screen frame within the image. This can be used as a creative choice or cropped later in post-production to a regular 16:9 aspect ratio.
Because the 4:3 Open Gate frame is taller than the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio, it reveals more of the image area captured by the sensor. Depending on the lens, filter mount, and filter size you are using, this can occasionally cause visible vignetting in the corners of the 4:3 image. This is something to keep in mind, especially if you plan to keep your final video in the full Open Gate aspect ratio. In most cases, a slight crop or zoom in post-production will remove the vignetting entirely, but the exact result will depend on your specific setup and combination of filters and lenses.
Summary
The iPhone 17 series introduces powerful new tools for mobile filmmakers, and Beastgrip gear remains compatible with it, working seamlessly. From universal rigs and compact clamps to professional-grade lenses and upcoming cages, our ecosystem provides creators with everything they need to capture high-quality, cinematic content. As mobile filmmaking continues to evolve, Beastgrip remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of creativity, offering more tools and options to help creators tell their stories and bring their visions to life.
