Beastgrip Pro
Most phones are compatible, including larger models like the iPhone 6 Plus. For a full list of specs, please visit our user guide.
Yes, as long as your phone is able to lay flat against the lens mount and fits within the specifications chart shown in our user guide.
Most standard 37mm conversion lenses and filters are compatible. Larger lenses and filters (up to 52mm) can be mounted with additional step-up rings.
It’s possible to use an SLR/DSLR lens, however, a DOF adapter is required. Please read “What SLR/DSLR lenses can I use?” in the DOF adapter FAQ section for more information on compatible SLR/DSLR lenses.
Yes. The lens mount is removable so you can attach mobile clip-on lenses to your phone while using the Beastgrip Pro.
Yes. The lens mount is adjustable on three different axis (up/down, left/right, back/front) to accommodate phones with protruded cameras.
Yes. You can mount most photo/video support gear that have a standard a 1/4"-20 threaded mount screw.
Yes. There is a standard cold shoe mount and four additional 1/4"-20 standard threaded mounts (two on each handle) to hold most accessories.
dof adapter
A DOF (Depth Of Field) adapter allows you to use SLR/DSLR lenses with your smartphone to achieve a shallow depth of field.
The Beastgrip DOF adapter is an aluminum tube with an Canon EF (EOS) mount on one side and a set of macro lenses on the other. There is a focusing screen inside the tube that captures the image from the SLR/DSLR lens, while your phone captures the image that’s displayed on the focusing screen - it’s basically like taking a photo/video of a movie screen with your phone.
Most lenses will work as long as they meet the following criteria:
1. Canon EF (EOS) Mount: If your lens does not have a Canon EF (EOS) mount, you will need to use an adapter ring (not included) that converts your lens’ mount to a Canon EF (EOS) mount. Please note: We do not sell adapter rings at this time.
2. Manual Focus Control: This is required to focus, since there is no electronic connection. For example, lenses like the Canon STM lens will not work, because they require an electronic connection/power to focus.
3. Open Aperture: Your lens will either need an aperture control ring or an aperture that is always open.
4. Fast F-Stop: We recommend using f1.2-f2.8 lenses. Other lenses will work, but the results will not be optimal.
5. Full Frame: If your lens is not full frame, i.e. crop sensor lens, there will be a lot of vignetting/dark edges.
No. The FFD (Flange Focal Distance) on mirrorless cameras/lenses is is much shorter than on an SLR/DSLR camera/lens, and will not work.
Simply attach the supplied 37mm-52mm Step Up Ring and +10 Close Up Filter to the bottom of the pre-assembled Beastgrip DOF adapter and then gently screw it into to the Beastgrip Pro or other lens mount. Do not overtighten.
This happens if too much force was used to tighten it to the lens mount - it’s a common problem for threaded lenses/filters. You can remove the Close-up Filter from the lens mount easier with rubber gloves, rubber bands, or (gently) with pliers. If you use pliers, make sure there is something in between the pliers and your Close-up Filter to avoid causing damage.
To avoid this from happening in the future, firmly tighten the Close-up Filter to the DOF Adapter before attaching it to the lens mount and do not overtighten it to the lens mount; gently screw it in until it stops.
You’ll need to purchase another focusing screen for either Canon 6D, 5D or Canon 5D Mark 3 cameras. Please note: We do not sell focusing screens at this time.
The image is projected upside down from your SLR/DSLR lens. Here is a list of apps that allow you to flip the image right side up while you’re shooting:
iPhone: FiLMiC Pro, Ultrakam, CineCam Pro, Filmakr, and MoviePro.
Android: Open Camera
Windows: As far as we know, there is not an app with this feature for Windows phones. You can still use the DOF adapter effectively, but the image will be upside down while shooting and you will have to flip the image later with your native camera app.
Yes. With any DOF adapter, there will be some vignetting/dark edges. In general, faster lenses (f1.2 - f2.8) will have less vignetting since more light is able to come through.
This is probably dust on your focusing screen. Do not touch the focusing screen - it is very sensitive to scratches. Only use the included dust blower to clean. Scratched focusing screens need to be replaced. Please note: We do not sell focusing screens at this time.
On most phones you will need to zoom in or crop to frame to fit the focusing screen. You’ll also need to make sure your focusing screen is aligned properly. Once the DOF adapter is attached to the Beastgrip Pro you’ll need to remove ring #3, slightly loosen ring #1, align the focusing screen to be horizontal to your phone camera, tighten ring #1 to lock it in place and then re-attach ring #3.
Yes, however, Nokia Lumia phones require additional close filter lenses to focus. Please note: We do not sell close up filters at this time, but 37mm close up filters usually come in sets of four and they are widely available on websites like Amazon, eBay, etc.
wide-angle lens
Simply attach the Extreme Wide-Angle and Macro lenses (pre-assembled) to the Beastgrip Pro or other 37mm threaded lens mount.
Simply detach the Macro lens from the bottom of the Extreme Wide-Angle lens and screw it into the Beastgrip Pro or other 37mm threaded lens mount.
This happens if too much force was used to tighten it to the lens mount - it’s a common problem for threaded lenses/filters. You can remove the Macro lens from the lens mount easier with rubber gloves, rubber bands, or (gently) with pliers. If you use pliers, make sure there is something in between the pliers and your Macro lens to avoid causing damage.
To avoid this from happening in the future, firmly tighten the Macro lens to the Wide-Angle lens before attaching it to the lens mount and do not overtighten it to the lens mount; gently screw it in until it stops.
There will be vignetting, or dark edges on phone cameras with less than a 29 mm equivalent focal length. If this is the case with your phone, you’ll need to zoom in or crop the photo to frame it properly.
This problem may also sometimes occur with thick phone cases that increase the distance between the phone camera and the lens mount.
fisheye lens
Simply attach the Fisheye and Macro lenses (pre-assembled) to the Beastgrip Pro or other 37mm threaded lens mount.
Simply detach the Macro lens from the bottom of the Fisheye lens and screw it into the Beastgrip Pro or other 37mm lens mount.
Yes. The image will be framed inside of a circle. This is part of the “fisheye” effect and can be removed by zooming in or cropping, if desired.
To avoid this from happening in the future, firmly tighten the Macro lens to the Fisheye lens before attaching it to the lens mount and do not overtighten it to the lens mount; gently screw it in until it stops.
