Beastgrip’s new 77mm Filters: Elevating Your Smartphone Photography and Filmmaking Experience

August 1, 2024

In response to the evolution of modern smartphones with wider and more sophisticated camera lenses, we've upgraded our lenses with larger filter mounts to accommodate bigger filters. To ensure flawless performance and eliminate any risk of mechanical vignetting, we increased the filter mount size to 62mm, carefully balancing lens size and functionality. This upgrade has led to the creation of our new 77mm filters, perfectly suited to enhance the capabilities of today’s advanced smartphone cameras.

We do understand that different users have different needs so for now both our original Beastgrip 58mm filters and the new 77mm filters will remain available for you to choose from. We will also help you understand your options a little better so that you can make the right decision for your smartphone photography and filmmaking needs but in general if you plan to use filters directly with your device cameras without attaching external lenses to your smartphone the 58mm filters are still an excellent choice. On the other hand if you plan to add external lenses to your setup the 77mm filters are your go-to option. While it's not a strict rule, this guideline helps optimize your photography setup.

Why the Move to 77mm Filters?

All of our Pro Series lenses feature a 62mm filter mount which we adopted to avoid a significant increase in lens size. However it's essential to note that mounting a 62mm filter on your lens might still result in a small degree of mechanical vignetting depending on various factors such as your lens type and smartphone model. To address this issue we decided to introduce larger 77mm filters.

For owners of older Beastgrip lenses with a 58mm filter mount, we now offer a 58mm to 77mm filter adapter. This adapter allows you to easily attach 77mm filters to your lenses and fits seamlessly onto the Beastcage 58mm filter mount. Additionally, it’s compatible with our 37mm-58mm filter mount when used with Beastcages, which is available separately on our website. Our new Pro Series lenses come with a 62mm filter mount. To use 77mm filters, we offer a 62mm-77mm filter adapter, available for purchase on our web store. However, our Pro Series Macro lens comes with a 58mm filter mount. You can use 58mm filters directly or opt for the 58mm to 77mm adapter to accommodate larger 77mm filters.

Also, to help you choose the best filters for your Beastgrip setup, here’s an even more detailed guide.

Beastcage for iPhone users

If you're using your smartphone without any additional lenses, 58mm filters are the ideal choice as they attach directly to your Beastcage via the 58mm filter mount. For Beastcage users who plan to use Pro Series lenses, we recommend opting for 77mm filters, as they are compatible with both the lenses and the filter mount when paired with an additional step-up ring. This ensures versatility and convenience across your setup. All you need to do is simply add the 62-77mm adapter to your lens to incorporate larger 77mm filters with ease.

Beastgrip Pro users

For Beastgrip Pro users who want to use filters directly with their camera, 58mm filters are the best choice since 77mm filters won’t fit inside the rig. The 37mm-58mm filter adapter and 58mm filters are ideal for this setup. If you prefer to use 77mm filters with your Beastgrip Pro and Pro Series lenses, simply add the 62mm-77mm filter adapter to your lens.

In summary, our new 77mm filters are compatible with all our Pro Series lenses when used with the 62-77mm step-up ring. If you’re not planning to use any external lenses, the 58mm filters are still an excellent choice. Their smaller size doesn’t compromise performance and delivers outstanding results for your photography needs.

By offering this extensive range of filter options, we aim to ensure that every Beastgrip user can achieve stunning photography and filmmaking results, regardless of their specific setup.
